This was not road learning trip, but a special conveying 2 lowliner wagons from Swindon to Maritime for repairs. They had been left there after developing wheel defects.

Why is it only hauling 1 wagon then?

Hello, can you tell me how to get to this location - do I need a steppladder etc? Thanks
[#8751775] 2008-06-24 03:26:22 Left by Iain (#0) Reply
By Car - It's between Pangbourne and Beale Park on the A329 (Shooters Hill), there is a lay-by to park in almost opposite to the underbridge, which the location is accessible by. By Train - Go to Pangbourne station and walk west (on the river side of the tracks) follow the path on the A329 until you see a lay-by and a few yards on you will see a bridge on your left, on the other side of the road, go under it. ...after you come out from under the bridge take the path on the left, go past the access steps and there is an embankment, either go up it there if you can or walk until it's a bit flatter, once at the top walk back towards the tracks, almost on the edge of the embankment there is a gap in the shrubbery on the extreme left, walk through that and you will be next to the tracks, there has been a few trunk sections/deadwood placed next to the fence to stand on if you need extra height, but a stepladder may be more stable, depending on your balance. Hope this helps, Iain.

Hi Iain, This is a great shot - the lighting on the side of the 66 really brings out the colour. Nice lineside location too ;-) Darryl

I certainly did! As I wrote in the email a few months back (if you got it), you are welcome to any of photos taken on the BWR, Past and Future. If you are wondering who I was, I was the guy with the 'young lad' (my brother) in tow. I might be down for the Diesel Gala in September!

Thanks Tony, I thought it might have been too low but it turned out alright, just had to clear a bit of foliage then lean against the handrail, but watch out for the sign!

Thanks Tony! The sun was a bit further round than I would have liked and the misty valley didn't help but thankfully it came out alright. :)

Thanks Chris, I would have prefered the light when it was meant to pass to be honest, the light would have been similar to that of when the 450s passed. With the light the colours would have been better, especially when WCRC maroon is involved!

Cheers Tony! The only disappointing moment was the westbound DRS 37s passing in the dull, only minutes before it was raining quite hard, so it was certainly not as bad as it could have been. At least it cleared up for the returns though.

could you tell me where the shot of 70013 was taken, it is the same location as 60059 and the 37s

The location is the field opposite(ish) the entrance to Basildon Park, the photos of 60059 and 37s the were taken from the same spot, under the tree, there is a decent shot both ways from there and you also have a bit of shade, if the sun comes out.

Thanks Chris! It was a bit close with the sun, it started to come out as the train appeared, doesn't help at this location as the trees make it shadowy.
